Taking a Break

In order to achieve and maintain optimal performance in any activity, it is important to take breaks. Whether it is a good night's sleep, a lunch break during the day at work, or a longer annual vacation, the body and mind need recovery time. Trying to operate at 100% capacity all the time will eventually lead to ailments like physical injuries (from over-training), sickness (from increased stress levels and a depressed immune system), emotional imbalance (irritability, anger), or even a complete breakdown.

If you have a strong work ethic and have trouble with the idea of taking a break, then think of it instead as recovery time. Just like muscles need a chance to rest and rebuild after a workout to grow stronger, a break will recharge you mentally and emotionally.

As professionals we strive to consistently perform at the top of our game. Taking breaks will help us achieve that goal.
